Higher Education Leadership and Management
The South African higher education landscape has been undergoing dramatic and fundamental changes. These include the far reaching restructuring of the sector through mergers and the creation of new institutions. This has led to a number of challenges which require high level leadership and management competencies.
The core purpose of HELM is to support the development of leadership and management capacity in higher education by providing the necessary infrastructure, developing appropriate curricula and sourcing the necessary materials and expertise to support such an initiative.
The key objectives for the HELM programme are to make available a Leadership and Management development programme that will support the:
- Development of leadership and management to ensure that students are provided with quality education.
- Development of professional leadership and management of the curriculum and therefore ensure that the institutions provide quality teaching, learning and resources for improved standards of achievement for all students.
- Development of leaders and managers who are able to critically engage and be self-reflective practitioners.
- Enablement of leaders and managers to manage their organizations as complex learning organizations and instill values supporting transformation in the South African context.
